Revision of the South American genus Paraegidium (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Orphninae)

The Neotropical Orphninae genus Paraegidium Vulcano et al. is revised. Five new species are described: Paraegidium monneorum sp. nov., Paraegidium barretoi sp. nov., Paraegidium pokornyi sp. nov., Paraegidium howdeni sp. nov., and Paraegidium oliveirai sp. nov. The genus is subendemic to Brazil, and its species are distributed from Guiana Shield in the north to the Peruvian Yungas in the west and to Serra do Mar escarpments in the southeast. Keys, descriptions, illustrations of habitus and male genitalia, and distributional record map are given.

Review of the Madagascan Orphninae with revision of the genus Triodontus Westwood

The subfamily Orphninae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) is reviewed from Madagascar. A total of four genera and 39 species were found, all being endemic to the island. The following five new species are described: Triodontus ankarafantsikae, Triodontus lemoulti, Triodontus viettei, Triodontus fairmairei, and Triodontus inexpectatus. Lectotypes are designated for Orphnus nitidulus Guérin-Méneville, 1844 and Orphnidius modestus Benderitter, 1914. The following new synonymies are proposed: Orphnus nigrita Brancsik, 1893 is synonym of Triodontus hova (Fairmaire, 1868); Triodontus occidentalis Paulian, 1977 and Orphnus obsoletus Brancsik, 1893 are synonyms of Triodontus nitidulus (Guérin-Méneville, 1844); Triodontus vadoni Paulian, 1977 and Triodontus perrotorum Paulian, 1977 are synonyms of Triodontus owas Westwood, 1852.Keys, descriptions, illustrations of habitus and male genitalia, and distributional records maps are given for all species.

Abstract — A male of Pseudorphnus hiboni Paulian is described from material recently collected in Ranomafana National Park (eastern Madagascar). The species is compared with the two other known species of the genus. Notes on biology and distribution are given.

Revision of Metadorodocia Machatschke

The genus Metadorodocia, which is endemic to Madagascar, is revised. A lectotype is designated for its type species, Adoretus vittatus Waterhouse, 1878. A second species of this genus, Metadorodocia frolovi n. sp., is diagnosed from M. vittata and described. Illustrations for both species are provided and their distributions are clarified.

Revision of the genus Adorodocia endemic to Madagascar

The Adoretini of the Malagasy endemic genus Adorodocia Brenske 1893 is revised. Fourteen new species and  one  new subspecies are described and  compared with their most closely related species: A. constricta  n.  sp., A. cuccodoroi n. sp., A. flava n. sp., A. liliae n. sp., A. marginata n. sp., A. peyrierasi n. sp., A. pseudoconstricta n. sp., A. pseudoflava n. sp., A. pseudostrigata  n. sp., A. recta  n. sp., A. robusta  n. sp., A. sogai n. sp., A. vadoni n. sp., A. viettei n. sp. and A. vittaticollis flavipes n. ssp. The synonymy between Adoretus strigatus Waterhouse 1878, and Pseudadorodocia  aenigma Arrow 1901, is confirmed. Thus, based on the results of this study, the genus Adorodocia includes 16 species, and one of them is represented by two subspecies. Diagnostic characters to separate the species in the genus deal mostly with the shape of parameres, color of body and legs, shape of pronotum and female eighth tergite, setation of pronotum and elytra. Key to species, diagnoses and distribution for each species are provided. Endophallus and female genitalia are illustrated for the first time for this genus.

New species of the Madagascan scarab beetle genus Madecorphnus

Abstract. Three new species of the scarab beetle genus Madecorphnus, endemic to Madagascar, are described from the material collected by the staff of the California Academy of Sciences. The new species are: M. fisheri sp. nov. (mid-elevation rain forest on the eastern flank of the Anosyenne Mountains, southern Madagascar), M. saintemariensis sp. nov. (coastal forest, Sainte Marie Island, eastern Madagascar), and M. tuberculatus sp. nov. (low elevation rain forest, Betampona Reserve, eastern Madagascar).

New locality records for Madecorphnus niger Frolov, 2010, M. falcatus Paulian, 1992, M. simplex Frolov, 2010, and Triodontus itremoi Paulian, 1977, are given. Endophallus armature of M. niger Frolov, 2010, is described and illustrated.

Nine new species are described: M. brunneus sp. n., M. dentatus sp. n., M. montreuili sp. n., M. niger sp. n., M. pauliani sp. n., M. perinetensis sp. n., M. peyrierasi sp. n., M. punctatus sp. n., M. simplex sp. n. Diagnosis of the genus is clarified. Distribution map and a diagnostic key to all species are presented.

Abstract. Madecorphnus cuccodoroi Frolov, sp. n. is described from specimens collected in indigenous forest in Amber Mountain National Park, northern Madagascar. The new species differs from the similar species M. peyrierasi Frolov and M. perinetensis Frolov in the shape of the parameres and internal sac armature.

A new species of the Madagascan genus Pseudorphnus

Pseudorphnus carinatus new species is described from northern Madagascar (Antsiranana Province). Males of the new species differ from other species of the genus in having a long (about 8/10 the width of clypeus) transverse ridge near anterior margin of the clypeus.
