Taxonomic position of Sissantobius mandibularis

Frolov, A.V. 2005. Taxonomic position of Sissantobius mandibularis (Lansberge) and synonymy of Orphnus over Sissantobius (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Orphninae). Journal of Afrotropical Zoology, 2: 69-72.

Examination of the holotype of Sissantobius mandibularis (Lansberge, 1886) shows that this species shares all the taxonomic characters of the genus Orphnus and is closely related to O. gilleti Benderitter. Synonymy of Orphnus MacLeay over Sissantobius Ritsema is therefore established.

A review of scarabs of subgenus Plagiogonus, genus Aphodius, of Russia and neighboring countries

Akhmetova, L.A. 2009. A review of scarabs of the subgenus Plagiogonus Mulsant, genus Aphodius Illiger (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae), of the fauna of Russia and neighboring countries. Entomological Review, 89(4): 428-436.

Abstract—A review of the scarab subgenus Plagiogonus Mulsant, genus Aphodius Illiger, of the fauna of Russia and adjacent countries is given, with a key to the species and data on their distribution. Two species names, Aphodius reitteri D. Koshantschikow, 1894 and A. burgaltaicus Csiki, 1901, are restored from synonyms. Two new synonymies are established: A. chan Endrödi, 1967 = A. peregii Endrödi, 1983, syn. n.; A. reitteri D. Koshantschikow, 1894 = A. kricheldorffi W. Koschantschikov, 1910, syn. n. Neotype of A. culminarius Reitter, 1900 and lectotype of A. burgaltaicus are designated, and redescriptions of these species are given. A secondary sex character of Plagiogonus is found.

Revision of the genus Delopleurus with description of new species from Africa

Frolov, A.V. 2014. Revision of the genus Delopleurus Boheman (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) with description of new species from Africa. Journal of Natural History, 49: 1-25.

The genus Delopleurus Erichson, 1847, is revised. Five new species are described from Africa: Delopleurus naviauxi sp. nov., Delopleurus krikkeni sp. nov., Delopleurus darrenmanni sp. nov., Delopleurus fossatus sp. nov. and Delopleurus pubescens sp. nov. One new synonymy is established (Delopleurus parvus (Sharp, 1875) = Delopleurus cardoni Paulian, 1934, syn. nov.). Lectotype of Delopleurus pullus Boheman, 1857, is designated. Delopleurus janssensi Frey, 1963, is transferred to the genus Metacatharsius Paulian, 1939. A key to the Delopleurus species and locality maps are given.

The African genus Coptorhina Hope is revised. Nine new synonymies are established which reduces the number of valid names from 15 to six. One new species is also described. The name changes are the following: C. subaenea Janssens, C. bicolor Ancey, C. pygmaea Balthasar, and C. saganicola Müller are considered junior synonyms of C. nitidipennis Boheman; C. africana Hope, C. vicina Péringuey, C. obtusicornis Boheman, C. punctata Ferreira and C. optata Péringuey are considered junior synonyms of C. klugii Hope. The new species, C. excavata sp. n., is described from southern Africa. A key to the species and notes on biology are given.
